Claiborne Hughes Program

In-House Therapy Services
Claiborne-Hughes Health Center provides a full contingent of clinical rehabilitative services. Claiborne-Hughes Health Center employs their own in-house rehabilitation staff so that we can provide a highly individualized program for each resident with a strong focus on consistency and continuity in the care of our patients. Many of our staff have 20 years or more experience in long term care therapy services and multiple years in our center.
“We are all working toward the same goal with an in-house program” said OTR Cathy Giles, “ We are working together for the good outcomes of our Residents”.  “The quality of the interaction seems better and the facility is more unified under this model.” said Thoma Parker, Rehab Program Manager. "The resulting program is much stronger and more beneficial to the residents rather than a program using outside contractors. The model encourages cohesive service delivery in which every participant is a stakeholder with the same goal; Quality Patient Care!"

Outpatient Services
When a Resident leaves CHHC, they don't have to worry about where they can receive their ongoing outpatient services. Patients wishing to return home who have continuing therapy needs but are not homebound can return to the therapy department for their outpatient therapy needs.

Returning for services in the facility outpatient program means having the option of continuing therapy with the same therapists who have provided treatment during the residential stay. Consistent staff is one of the predictors of a good therapeutic outcome. Former residents often state that the therapists who treated them during their stay understand their capabilities and know how hard to push to help them improve. They report that the stress of their outpatient treatment was reduced by continuing at CHHC Outpatient because the therapists could recognize and celebrate how much they had already achieved.

It is not necessary to have stayed at CHHC to receive outpatient services there. Anyone eligible for Medicare Part B services would qualify for services as well as some private insurance providers. Contact the Rehab Department to learn more about Outpatient services.

Pastoral Care Service
Claiborne-Hughes Health Center has been blessed with the services of one of the most dynamic and supportive pastoral care directors a facility could ever have in the form of Bill Jenkins. Brother Bill provides spiritual support to the residents, families and staff of the facility on an individual and group basis. His weekly non denominational service is one of the most attended events in the building. He has recruited many of the staff to participate in the CHHC choir and Mr. Greg Bone regularly blesses us with his phenomenal keyboard virtuosity on Tuesday afternoons. Brother Bill has enjoyed a long career of spiritual service which is reflected in the maturity he brings to his role as Pastoral Care Director. He regulary provides adjustment assistance, crisis counseling,  ongoing one on one spiritual TLC and bereavement support when called upon to do so. He is just another reason that Claiborne-Hughes is such a special facility.

Patient-Family Liaison
Bernadette Bilger fulfills a very special role in our facility. She spearheads the Patient-Family Liaison Program at CHHC. The program focuses on identifying problems very quickly and providing a nonjudgemental and non confrontational  avenue for problem resolution. Bernadette is both a family member and an employee at CHHC. This provides a unique perspective allows her to see both sides of most issues and to relate to both staff and family concerns. She spends a great deal of time surveying staff and families and presenting concerns for family members, allowing the families a chance to have concerns voiced but in a nonconfrontational manner. Bernadette is a knowledgeable healthcare provider and a great listener. She will help smooth any little bumps in the road with your stay!

Admissions
Andrea Hooper is our Admissions Coordinator. Andrea is an LPN experienced in long term care. She has been at  CHHC for five years. She has a BA in Management and Human Relations and has a thorough knowledge of health care programs. Her experience  allows her to provide "one stop" support in the admissions process. Andrea will familiarize you with the facility and help you through the admissions process. She will assure that your family member's needs are communicated to all departments in the building to provide a smooth transition into the facility. She also participates in many facilty activities such as the pet therapy program. Andrea is an avid photographer who regularly shares her gifts with the Residents. Many of the lovely Resident photographs throughout the building were taken by Andrea.

Activities Program
Claiborne-Hughes is bolstered by a very strong Activites Program. Stephanie Sparkman, Activities Director, programs for all facilty residents. Bingo is a regularly scheduled and heavily attended activity. Family Night dinners are scheduled monthly with themes changing monthly. All of Stepanie's staff are Certifed Nursing Assistance and so are well prepared to address any need that may come up during a scheduled activity. They also assist with the meal service.  Activities provide a common experience which bonds our Residents and  gives a strcture to the day.

Our Residents with dementia have special programming available. Activities are customized to the cognitive level of the people attending. Our goal is to provide a meaningful day for all Residents of Claiborne-Hughes.

Pet Therapy Program
Many of the Residents of CHHC miss their pets from home. Often leaving a pet behind is one of the most difficult decisions when leaving home because of health concerns. Pet therapy is an important and valued aspect of life at CHHC. The facility has established a pet policy which gives clear guidelines for how a pet may visit or how a pet therapy animal is managed. Dogs and cats are welcome for visits or therapy as long as the policies are followed. The facility has numerous large fish tanks located in various areas of the building. Probably one of the most exciting parts of our pet therapy program is the bird population. The facility has various types of birds. Cockatiels have always been favorites with the Residents because they are very social. Lately, however, they have been replaced in popularity by the finches who have recently raised a brood of finch chicks. The whole facility has been fascinated by the process as they hatched and have grown.  Even more popular than the birds is Gabby, the Pet Therapy Dog. Gabby and her owner Tom visit the facility on a regular basis. Gabby is smart and remembers  many of the Residents. They anticipate her frequent visits.

Beauty and Barbershop Services
Claiborne-Hughes has an inhouse beauty shop which serves the needs of both our male female Residents. Amy, our licensed beautician can provide haircuts, wash and sets, permanents and other services. Amy will make sure that your family member is well appointed for special occasions. Visit her to schedule appointments. Special nail care is provided by our activities department. They regularly pamper Residents with manicures and pedicures. We know everyone feels better with a good hairstyle and nice looking nails.
